Angana Prasad

Playing the Game

Vivacious, passionate and playful, Angana has been in the forefront of all social service activities since childhood. Through Project KHEL, she has played an intrinsic role in designing, initiating and leading the Menstrual Health Management (MHM), Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Puberty related programmes, directly interacting with over 14000 children and adults.

Vivacious, passionate and playful – these are three most outstanding traits of Angana’s. Showing obvious traits of interest in the development sector from a young age, she was always in the forefront of all social service activities back in school and was elected the NGO head under the NSS wing of her college. By the end of her graduation, she had started selling gift items she made of recycled paper, to raise money to either buy food for the homeless or underwear for the inmates of a local girls’ shelter home and school. It was but a natural next step to move beyond this and choose a job that struck a chord with her heart. That’s how Project KHEL happened.

As a core team member of the organization since 2012, Angana has played an intrinsic role in designing, initiating and leading the Menstrual Health Management (MHM), Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Puberty related programmes, directly interacting with over 14000 children and adults across the country. A storyteller at heart, she has actively been engaged in curriculum development, implementation and facilitation based on play, theatre, discussions, craft and various other creative means, imparting life skills education to more than 3000 underprivileged children in Lucknow. She is responsible for the management of the organizational team on a day to day basis. At the same time, she is also actively engaged in the strategic framework of Project KHEL. Apart from in- house trainings, she has designed and successfully facilitated various external workshops and trainings for other organizations like the UNICEF, which has had outreach to over 67000 adolescent girls in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The authenticity of her intentions reflects in every interaction she has with her audience, and safe spaces for her children, do not mean physical spaces, but anywhere that they are with their beloved Angana didi. Owing to her ability to connect with her audience, win their confidence and simplify just about every piece of information, her workshops have seen many teenagers come out to their peers with questions about their sexuality, how to handle relationships, deal with body image issues and break through social taboos. On her part, she ensures never to violate this trust and confidentiality of the audience.

Angana has never been the one to wait for bigger things to inspire her. She manages to find inspiration in things that are small yet significant. She is the dreamer who realizes and addresses the challenges upfront. As she strides her way forward as a development professional and an educator, Angana continues to share her experiences with the world while absorbing the light of the people she works with and the places she goes to.
