In a world that believes “girls are meant to be seen, not heard”, here is a woman who is the voice of a generation! ‘RJ Miruthula’, as she is known by her listeners, has a voice that can leave everybody in rapt silence.

Born in an orthodox household where only the men had a say, Miruthula always had to fight her way up. She earned a degree in Visual Communication, and went on to become the first girl in her family to graduate. These were just the makings of the role model that Miruthula is today.

On entering the radio industry, her voice was given a loudspeaker, on a metaphorical level - she was able to reach out to, and influence more people. The concerns of the safety of women have often met deaf ears, so Miruthula took it upon herself to get the message across. She even participated in a talkathon where she highlighted the issues faced by women and crowd-sourced solutions.

Miruthula is a two-time winner of the Ananda Vikatan award for best female RJ. But the prize she values most is the attention of her countless listeners who hear her voice and are roused to find their own.
