Shilpa Sonal

Sowing the Seeds of Good

Shilpa has been actively involved in charitable and social work aimed towards the upliftment of the underprivileged children and conducting vocational livelihood activities for adults.

Bagiya - a garden that offers education, employment and empowerment for the underserved children and women from the slums and villages of Gurgaon and NOIDA.

Shilpa sowed the seeds for Bagiya in 2009, her flagship project as Founder and Director of Sanshil Foundation for Welfare. Project Bagiya is where she has been actively involved in charitable and social work aimed towards the upliftment of the underprivileged children and conducting vocational livelihood activities for adults. She has pioneered the model in which green energy and ecologically sustainable practices are a source of livelihood for the economically weaker sections.

Her main focus is on creating literacy and vocational training programmes with a new perspective - for children and adults at the bottom of the pyramid.
With 150+ students supported in mainstream education, Bagiya is the remedial bridge to harness the potential and future of the marginalized. Health camps, life saving medical interventions and surgeries, academic and new age technological support, heritage, art, music, Yoga, and cultural exposure lay the foundation to make them able citizens of the future.

The village women of Jharsa, Gurgaon – have been brought to the international map via the self-sustainable Sanshil Stitching Centre. Since 2009, environment friendly products made by the village women, have reached Germany as part of an extremely successful ‘Reduce plastic’ drive, thereby consistently contributing to a plastic free world.

On the board of a global company to empower women workers in the factory, Shilpa is also actively involved as an ICC member in ensuring the Anti Sexual Harassment Policy at workplaces is complied with. Shilpa is also the Secretary - Spic Macay Gurgaon - A voluntary organization that is dedicated to promotion of Indian art, music, and culture amongst the youth.
